Trust Chair Update – Kohitatea 2021

Ngā mihi o te tau hou Pākeha e te whānau.

I hope you have all managed to spend some quality time with your whānau and friends ready for 2021.  Our whānau spent most of our time at our bach with no internet and most days on the beach swimming re-connecting as a whānau, it was just what was needed after a very busy, unsettling year.  So whānau, as I have had time to reflect and recharge the batteries, I am ready to serve you again for my final year on the board and as the Chair of Ngāti Koata.

On that note I will leave you with some wise words from Iwi Chair leader Rūnanga o Ngāti Whatua Kahurangi Naida Glavish who reminds us all as leaders why we do what we do and who we do it for!

“Leadership is about having to make the hard decisions and having the foresight to see beyond this generation, it is our duty to care for and protect our whakapapa – our moko’s, moko”

Lastly, nau mai haere mai ki te whānau o Ngāti Koata Shep, our newly appointed Cultural Manager and to Lovey Elkington who has joined the Office Administration team.  I look forward to reminiscing about our childhood memories.  Stay tuned whānau, the board has their first hui for the year coming up so a board update will follow, keeping you abreast on some of the mahi we will be progressing in 2021.

Tēnā koutou e te whānau o Ngāti Koata,

Joanie Wilson
