2025 Special Resolution
Kia mōhio mai rā e te iwi – the Ngāti Koata Trust Deed is being updated.
This is a key part of our mahi to:
✔️ Comply with the Māori Fisheries Amendment Act 2024 (MFAA)
✔️ Align with Te Ohu Kaimoana’s (TOKM) December 2024 guidance
The Deed is the foundation document of the Ngati Koata Trust – it sets out how the Trust operates and makes decisions on behalf of Ngāti Koata.
What’s changing?
We’ll share full details shortly, but here’s the big picture:
- Clarified voting rights for all adult members
- Further reporting on fisheries relationships
- Simplified quota sales process
- Removal of the 40% cap on Trustees serving as directors on the asset-holding company
- Less restrictions and so greater oversight of our fisheries assets.
What stays the same?
- Our kaupapa and values
- Our commitment to protecting iwi assets and serving our people
- The iwi post-settlement governance entity called Te Pātaka a Ngāti Koata Trust – it’s not affected by these changes, this is about the fisheries.
How you can have your say:
We’ll be hosting hui to discuss these technical changes.
These changes will be voted on at the 2025 AGM.
